A nice HL Leonard Hunt fly rod, model 39-5, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, for a #5 line.. Serial #8425 and a 1984 manufacture date. Post Maxwell and one of the rods made in the last few months before the company was auctioned, during the Larry Foster period. Weighs 3.7 ounces. Lightly used condition with modest soiling to the slim cigar grip as the prime indication of use. DF action. Lightly flamed cane in a three up node pattern construction. Nodes are somewhat grainy indicating belt sanding. Wraps are plum with a purple edge and another plum band at the keeper and ferrules. Red agate stripping guide. The varnish is excellent and in perfect condition. The ferrules and hardware are oxidized jet black. The reel seat is a mortised curly maple with a large signature cap and ring (.728 ID as opposed to the .650 for the small). The grip is 11 corks and a slim cigar. The butt cap is stamped "H.L.L. Leonard Rod Co, The Rod Maker, Since 1869". The rod is put up in a tan cloth bag and the late model brushed aluminum tube and a brass top and collar with the expanded version of the butt cap roller die stamped on the collar.
