A Jim Schaaf "Cascapedia" model bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #6. "The Cascapedia" and serial number "85-4-88" inked on the shaft on successive flats. The rod weighs 5.5 ounces on my scale. Lightly used condition. Authoritative medium action. The rod is straight and the ferrules seat fully. Medium wheatstraw colored cane with a randomized node pattern. Wrapped brown throughout with black tipping at the keeper and male ferrules, and the tip tops have a band of red on one tip and yellow on the other. All three guides on the butt are agate stripping guides and the first two on the tips are carbide strippers. Bright step ferrules with a Payne-style finial ferrule plug included. The grip is 5 1/2" and shaped to a western profile. The reel seat is a downlocking aluminum screwlock over a varnished and mortised light wood spacer. The maker's mark is stamped into the back of the butt cap, which also has a female ferrule designed to accommodate a small removable fighting butt. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag which holds the rod with fighting butt attached, and a black aluminum tube with brass fittings and the maker's data stamp affixed to it.
