A gorgeous Dana Gray "Carlson Four" quad bamboo fly rod, 6'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 line. Serial #066-4652 made in 2006. Mint, uncast condition. 2.9 ounces. Mirrored tips. Medium fast action. On a rare occasion a maker's rod really blows me away, and this is one of those times. Dana puts it all together on this rod with superb machining of the hardware to the perfect varnish coat. The node spacing seems random but great care has been taken so none are close to another. The main wraps are maroon with black edges at the keeper and male ferrules, and a set of 3-2-1 signature wraps done in black. The step ferrules are oxidized jet black and squared to the four sided rod sections. Black stripper and high arch snake guides. The grip is 6" long if you include the front cork check that is squared to the grip, which is itself shaped to a western profile. The slide band and cap reel seat are oxidized jet black and are ornamented with delicate knurls. The cap is stamped "Dana Gray, Maker". The seat is a varnished and mortised mahogany wood. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and the tube is polished aluminum with Dana's own brass hardware and a white felt insert in the brass cap.
