For sale here is a stunning Daryll Whitehead Presentation grade 7'6 2/2 for a 5 weight line. Serial no. 172, made in 2005. The rod remains in mint original condition with one exception. The butt section ferrule was recently reset by Chet Croco at Bellinger who has worked alongside Mr. Whithead for many years. Whitehead is sadly no longer making rods. All sections are full length and straight.
The rod features mildly tempered cane with 3 x 3 node spacing. Gold wraps with chestnut tipping. The male ferrules are tipped with a pale gold as wells as chestnut. One tip-top features two bands of chestnut tipping to distinguish it from the other tip. Blued guides. Handsome agate stripping guide. The intricate Paulo Barbetti engravings on the nickel silver reel seat hardware and ferrules are very nicely done, resulting in a finely detailed rod without being ostentatious. Reverse half wells grip with the original protective plastic still in place. Classic cap and ring reel seat over a beautifully figured mortised walnut spacer. Along with the other engravings, the butt cap is marked, "D.L. Whitehead MAKER SN 172". The Swiss-style ferrules have an excellent fit and include a fine ferrule plug. The rod weighs in at 3.75 oz. The action is a smooth yet crisp medium-fast with a good bit of backbone making for quite a versatile rod. It lends itself well to almost any trout situation. Includes the original bag and tube with fine brass fittings and label.
Don't miss a chance at this wonderful five-weight from D.L. Whitehead.
