A nice Thomas Browntone DF salmon fly rod, 10' 3-piece with 2-tips. Serial #FE120 and 8 3/4 oz. according to the hang tag. My guess is a #8 line. Oxidized ferrules and cork check typical of a browntone. Light flamed rod shafts, wrapped brown with heavy wire reverse twist guides (Note: the bottom guides on both tips and mid section have been replaced with more modern Hopkins and Holloway light wire reverse twist guides). The rod shows signs of having been refinished and whoever did it knew what they were doing as the varnish overcoat was expertly done. The grip has been cleaned leaving some ridging. Some of the rod sections show seams, however none are open. 14 cork western-style fore grip and 4 1'2" bottom grip with a red rubber button. The Hardy locking seat has a varnished walnut spacer in up-locking configuration. Stamped in cartouche on the locking seat "F.E. Thomas, Special, Bangor Me." Keeper is one flat right. Butt female ferrule and one tip male show slight signs of the use of pliers to facilitate takedown. Serial number F.E. 120 indicates that the manufacture date was 3/16/1948 and sold to a Mr Chesterton. Original bag and tube.
