For sale here we have a rather scarce FE Thomas Browntone Special -- 7' 2/2 4wt bamboo rod. Serial no. F32 - made in 1945. The rod is in excellent original condition. All sections are full length and straight. The rod features caramel colored browntone cane with rich chestnut brown colored wraps. Three band tipping at the male ferrules, also a 3-7-3-1 banding pattern on the generously swelled butt. The varnish on the rod is in excellent condition save a few very small chips here and there. The original owner's name was printed on the rod at the factory, a feature not often seen. Ring hook keeper attached to winding check. Blued hardware throughout. Bronzed guides. The modified full wells grip is quite curvy and fits the hand very well. The grip is in excellent condition with no ridging, though soiled. Cap and ring reel seat with mortised cork spacer. Ferrules are size 10/64, the fit is nice and tight as it should be. The rod weighs 3.20 oz. The action is a solid 4wt. The swelled butt gives the rod a quick and responsive action on the faster side of medium-fast with a delicate tip. This rod would excel on most trout streams as a deadly dry-fly rod, though not limited to this approach. Includes original green rod bag free of tears or rips and original tube with brass fittings. A truly exceptional example of a short FE Thomas rod.
