A nice Gary Howells bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #6 line. Serial #4653 which indicates a 1979 date of manufacture. Weighs 4.8 ounces on my scale. This rod has a faster action compared to the typical Howells taper. The condition is good, with tight ferrules. The rod could use some minor tip straightening, the grip has some modest hand soiling, and the varnish has some minor surface imperfections from hook digs (though I see no penetration into the cane anywhere). Oven tempered cane done in a three up node pattern. The main wraps are brown with yellow edges. Carbide stripper and chrome guides. The grip is 6 1/2" long and shaped to a western profile with a hidden pocket cap. The hardware is an aluminum uplocking screwlock over a nicely varnished wood spacer. The rod packs into a red cloth bag and an aluminum tube with Gary's data sticker affixed to it.
