Hardy Bros. "De-Luxe" Palakona 9'6 3/2 5wt Bamboo Rod

VFT937

For sale here is an interesting Hardy Bros. The "De-Luxe" Rod Palakona 9'6" 3/2 5wt bamboo rod. Serial #5916B made circa 1920. The rod is in excellent restored condition with one exception. The female ferrule on the mid-section is cracked at the top and will require a new ferrule if one intends to confidently fish the rod. There are light sets in the mid and one tip section. Oddly, the tips are 9/16" of an inch shorter than the butt while the mid is 1/8" longer than the butt. It appears to have been made this way.

The rod features straw colored cane with crimson wraps and gold full intermediates. Many of the wraps appear to be original. The unique bronze guides are set diagonally to the rod. Agate tip-tops and stripping guide. The wraparound script remains clean and bold. Full wells grip 7 5/8" in length. the grip has been cleaned and fairly worn. Aluminum up-locking reel seat over an ebonite spacer with an ebonite butt cap. The blued ferrules are size 19/64 and 12/64 with an excellent fit. The butt section ferrule includes the original ferrule plug. The rod weighs 6.10 oz. The action is on the medium side of medium-fast; surprisingly fast for the era of the rod.

The rod includes the original bag with purple velvet lining and label as well as the original tube. The tube is rather interesting, its covered in a canvas material with a flip-top cap and hook latch. Don't miss out on this terrific early Hardy, a must for the Hardy collector.
