For sale here is a very early Hardy Bros. Palakona bamboo casting rod with form fit wooden case. The rod is in good condition for its age. Serial number A44825, made in 1909. Six feet six inches in length. The varnish is a bit rough with some meltdown here and there. Some varnish has worn off of the wrap of the very bottom guide. All guides are secure and intact. The agate tip-top guide could be a replacement. All the guides have agate inserts, all free of cracks. The rod features very interesting spiked, locking ferrules in that fit very well. Up-locking reel seat over rolled cork. There is a small piece of cork missing out of the grip about the size of a pea. The butt cap, sliding ring, and winding check are [[brass]] and have a beautiful patina. The hard rubber fighting butt is in excellent condition. No cracking is present. Written on the rod spiraling upwards is " "Palakona" Regd. ". Also written is "Victor" above that. Rod comes with original wooden case fully intact in great condition with leather bottom piece and canvas straps that hold the rod in. A beautiful example of an early Hardy rod.
