For sale here is a Harold S. "Pinky" Gillum bamboo fly rod in very good+ condition. 8 feet with two sections and three tips. The third tip was built at a later date, evident by the fact that the cane appears slightly lighter (due to the curing of the varnish) and was glued using resorcinol, Pinky's glue of choice later in his career. I've inspected the two original tips closely and no repairs are evident. The rod is serial no. 618. The ferrules on the rod are Halstead step-down ferrules, size 13/64. The fit is excellent. The silks are the classic brown/copper color, some have been replaced. The grip likely has been replaced at some point as well. Bronzed ring hook keeper. The script on two flats reads, "H.S. Gillum" "Custom Built" - both faint in appearance but legible, and "C.A. Hanson '53" "Watertown. S.D." in a darker script on two other flats, perhaps added at the time the third tip was made. The reverse half wells grip is quite clean with only minimal soiling and free of ridging or other defects. Bright aluminum up-locking reel seat with a beautiful African Mahogany wood spacer. The rod weighs 4 3/4 oz. and has a lovely medium-fast action for a 5 or 6 line. Includes original bag and tube with brass fittings.
