A very rare Harold "Pinky" Gillum bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. The rod weighs 4.1 ounces on my scale. Modestly used condition. The rod is all original with some grip soiling and cosmetic casting cracks at the male ferrule wraps. There is a tiny bit of brassing to the oxidation on the welt of the Super Z ferrules. The varnish is in excellent condition. The oven tempered cane is a bit on the darker side of wheatstraw. The main wraps are brown with black, yellow, and black edges at the keeper, male ferrules, and tip tops. The stripper red agate and the HSS snake guides are high arch. There is a bit of varnish crazing around the edges of some guides and ferrules. The ferrules retain 98% of the original oxidation and the Super Z stamp. The grip is 6" long and turned to a western profile with a hidden pocket cap for the uplocking screwlock seat. The spacer is the typical curly spanish cedar (I think) and is nicely varnished. The polished screw nut is stamped "HS Gillum, Maker" and there is a "target" inscribed at the bottom. The bag is green and the tube is aluminum with a brass top, collar, and bottom. There aren't a lot of short Gillums out there - this rod is a very rare classic!
