Pinky Gillum Salmon Rod 9'1" 3/2 #8

3068

A HS "Pinky" Gillum bamboo salmon rod, 9'1", 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels like a #8.  Serial # 1-732. Fast DF action. Fair condition, with a small clear wrap below the bottom guide on one tip. The grip has some erosion, I suspect from storing the fly hook. There are some cracks to the ferrule wraps and the varnish overall is firm but has lots of scratches and scuffing. The snake guides have some noticeable flatting to the inner guides. Lastly, I also think the rod may have been purposefully cut down at one point, based on a somewhat unusual guide arrangement near the butt ferrule and because of some correspondence between the original owner and Pinky which references a cut down at the request of the owner (which I have seen but is not provided with the sale). The fixed fighting butt appears to have been added to replace the lost length. Light flame and oven tempered cane, with slightly lighter nodes done in a 2-opposed pattern. Light brown main wraps with black/yellow/black edges at the keeper and male ferrules. Perfection stripper. Black high arch H.S.S. snakes. Oxidized Super Z females and the fits are good. The grip is 7 1/2" long and shaped to a western profile with a hidden pocket cap. The uplocking aluminum screw lock is stamped "H.S. Gillum, Maker", and the varnished spacer is mahogany with a bit of tiger striping. The added-on fixed fighting butt is 3" long with a large rubber button. The rod packs into a green bag with a pull tie, and the aluminum tube has a brass colored bottom and top, but no data stickers.
