A HL Leonard bamboo fly rod, 10'9", 3-piece, 1-tip. There is an inscription engraved on the reel seat which I believe says "JNO Stewart from GF Howes, 1881" though it is slightly hard to make out. "HL Leonard, Maker" stamped in a cartouche at the bottom of the seat. The 1 tip on this rod is 1" short. "Skiff Killburn" engraved on the reel seat ring. Six strip construction of calcutta cane done in a three up node pattern. Chinese red wraps and intermediates. Rolled and soldered spike ferrules, except on the tip male. The guides are the tunnel type. The rod has at least one varnish overcoat and a 5 1/2" long invisible wrap on the mid section and several nodes on the mid show cracks. The grip is wound rattan 7" long with Chinese red between the strips and varnished. The all nickel silver reel seat is 5 1/2" long with soldered strips. The rod packs into a cloth bag.
