An HL Leonard model 38-4M bamboo fly rod, 7', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 line. The rod weighs 3.2 ounces on my scale. Serial #102 from the Brian McGrath era. Hunt model with a medium crisp DF action. The rod has seen very light use with some brassing to the inner guides and a hit of hand soiling to the grip. Flamed cane done in a three up node pattern. Excellent varnish. Maroon main wraps with a #8 SRMC stripper and bronze snakes. Large hoop tip top. The step ferrules are oxidized jet black. The grip is 4 1/2" long and shaped to a medium cigar profile. Mortised Koa slide band reel seat with an black oxidized cap and ring. There is some edgewear to the cap and ring oxidation. "HL Leonard Rod Co / The Rod Maker / Since 1869" stamped on the hardware. The rod packs into a dark blue rod bag and brass appointed rod tube fittings with HLL engraved on the top.
