An antique HL Leonard fly rod, 9', 3-piece, 2-tip, built for what feels to me like a #4 and possibly even a #3. Refinished condition. Calcutta cane. Very full flexing. 5.8 ounces. One tip is 3/4" short. The rod has been re-wrapped in Chinese red and re-varnished. Flip ring guides and stirrup tip tops. The ferrules are the pot belly style and the female has the patent date. The handle is rattan with Chinese red silk. The nickel silver all metal seat is a slide band and soldered hood constructed of rolled and soldered sheet stock. The seat is engraved with a prior owner's name "C.H. Hayes" and has the rarely seen die stamp "HL Leonard Makers, W. Mills + Son, New York, Sole Agents" in an oval cartouche. As always, this handmade hardware is a treat to examine. The rod packs into a form case without the tie strings. The owner has added a non-original bag which all packs into a canvas and leather carry case (though it is in somewhat poor condition).
