An HL Leonard model 39-5 bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Serial #1936 with a manufacture date of 1974. 3.8 ounces. Excellent used condition with some modest cosmetic cracking at the ferrule wraps and wear to the inner snake guides. Medium action with what feels to me like a faster butt and more moderate tips. Blonde oven temper cane done in a three up node pattern. The wraps are 326 red with additional edges of green and maroon at the keeper and male ferrules. The step ferrules are polished and the fit is tight. The cork grip is 5 1/2" long and shaped to a medium-to-blunt cigar profile. The reel seat is a square thread aluminum downlock with a butternut spacer and a nickel silver pocket cap stamped "The HL Leonard Rod Co, Makers". The bag is yellow poplin with a stiffener sewn by Bob Taylor's mom. The aluminum tube has brass fittings and the data sticker 95% intact.
