A nice HL Leonard Model 39 bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Serial #3447 which puts the date of manufacture around 1976. 3.6 ounces. Medium, full flexing action. This rod shows modest use with some hand soiling to the grip but all sections are nice and straight. Wheatstraw color cane done in a three up node pattern. Nice varnish. Light brown main wraps with dark brown edges and dark brown at the keeper, ferrules, and tip tops. The stripper is ceramic and the snake guides are chrome. The step ferrules are polished bright. The grip is 5 1/2" long and turned to a medium cigar profile. The seat is a downlocking screwlock of aluminum with a butternut insert and a nickel silver pocket cap. The stamp reads "The Leonard Rod, HL Leonard Rod Co" in a cartouche. The rod packs into a bag and Leonard tube.
