A nice early Leonard Tournament fly rod, 9' 3-piece, 2-tip built for a #5 or #6 line. Medium action. I'm guessing a 1930's date on this rod. Varnished and with a three up node pattern construction. Patent date stamped on the butt ferrule. Small reverse twist guides are most suitable for silk lines. Wrapped yellow with cinnamon edges, fore and aft at the keeper, at the male ferrules, and the agate tip tops. The agate stripper is in good condition. Ferrule fits are good with line up punch marks on the ferrule lips. The keeper is one flat right. The grip is a 5 1/2" deeply sculpted half wells composed of small 1/4" corks. Very large nickel silver front cork check. Varnished butternut slide band seat. The butt cap is stamped " the Leonard Rod, H.L. Leonard Rod Co, Makers" in cartouche and "Tournament" on the backside. Top hat ferrule plugs. Dark olive poplin bag is missing the hang tag. Original aluminum and brass topped tube.
