A Jim Schaaf "The Special" bamboo fly rod, 6'9", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 line. The rod weighs 3 ounces and is serial #69-16-87. Light use with the beginning of some cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrule wraps and light soiling to the grip. Medium fast full flexing action. The original owner's name is inscribed on the rod. Dark wheatstraw oven tempered cane. Excellent varnish. Brown main wraps with black edges on all. Agate stripper and black high speed steel snake guides. The step ferrules are patterned after Leonard or Payne and are polished bright. The grip is 5 1/2" long and turned to a medium cigar profile. The mortised cap and ring seat is polished and bears the roller die stamp "James Schaaf, Maker" in a cartouche. The rod packs into the original brown cloth bag and aluminum tube.
