A rare early Orvis Rocky Mountain bamboo fly rod, 6'6", 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 or #5 line. The shaft is inked with "Orvis - Impregnated" and "Pat Pending" (the word "impregnated" is partially gone though legible). The serial number "5640" is inked between the ferrule and uppermost guide wraps on the butt, and just next to the male ferrules on the mid and tips. The rod dates to 1948. Excellent lightly used condition with a little ridging to the grip and seat spacer but very clean overall. Impregnated medium cane done in a three up node pattern construction. Wrapped red throughout. Oxidized ferrules. Carbide stripper. 5 1/4" grip shaped to a medium blunt cigar profile. The reel seat is all-cork under a downlocking aluminum screwlock with a pocket cap. "Orvis Impregnated - Patent Pending" is stamped into the back of the cap. The rod packs into the original bag and tube. A rare early pack rod that's hard to find and in very nice condition as well.
