For sale here is an Otto Zwarg Saguenay Model 300 salmon fly reel in the 2/0 size. Serial number E27. Made in St. Petersburg after the move from Brooklyn. Excellent overall condition. Comes with its original Abercrombie & Fitch leather case marked 2/0.
The original owner of this reel was a gentleman who owned only Zwarg and Walker reels (although he may have had an EvH earlier and partially traded it in when he bought the Zwarg in '58, said a fishing partner). He disliked the engraving of initials into reels (thought that no one was important enough to literally "cut into such a craftsman's fine work" ), so I understand that he would delineate his reels by using the same lacquer-crayon as was used to mark the drag tension adjustment positions on these reels, but instead of "Chinese Red" as was used on the dots, he used this "Ivory White" and crayoned it into the circular recess ring on each side of the plates. Very stylish. It can easily be removed, should the new owner wish, with a round-tip wooden toothpick (it comes out like chalk) and a cotton swab/Q-tip can finish the clean-up/polish.
