For sale here is a Paul H Young "The Texas Kid" bamboo casting rod. The rod has one tip as is standard with his spinning and casting rods, is full length and original. Varnished and flamed cane. Serial number 2113 appears on both sections.
Script is that of Paul H. Young, noting model name (The Texas Kid), length (6'4) and weight (4.08 oz.) on one flat and the owner name (Gordon Rupe - Dallas) and date of build (Sept. '57) on another flat.
PHY's standard gold wraps appear original and in fine condition. The extended nature of the wraps on the butt (in front of the grip and then again before the stripping guide) are new to me. The ferrules fit together nicely. No ferrule clicking. The bluing on the female ferrule shows very minor age/use marks. All guides and tip-tops are secure.
The cork grip is in good condition still, showing very minor soiling from very little time on the water in my opinion. It should be noted as can be seen in the photos that there appears to be some gunk/corrosion on the down-locking reel seat threads, although it still operates as intended.
Varnish has a couple of spots/scratches but generally in fantastic shape.
There are no de-laminations and no invisible wraps on the rod. I've looked over the rod under good light and there are no seams or splinters.
The rod weighs 4 oz.
I am fairly certain the bag and tube are not original. The tube is 52" long.
