For sale here is a Paul H. Young Midge bamboo fly rod - 6'4" 2/2 4-5wt. Serial no. 2253 made in April 1957. The rod is in excellent+ original condition. All sections are full length and straight. Interestingly, the serial number is written on the cork spacer and on the tips there are four "hash marks" and no serial number as is common.

The rod has the richly mottle-flamed cane Young rods are known for. Jet black wraps. The varnish remains in excellent condition. The script is in Paul's handwriting, though the owner's name could have been written by Jack Young.

First flat: H.W.NEALE Apr. '57 Second flat: "Midge" 6'4" 1 3/4 oz. H.E.H. Fourth Flat: Paul H. Young - Detroit - Maker. Rarely do we see a Midge that is 6'4" in length.

The petite cigar grip is 4 3/8" in length with only light soiling. Dual black aluminum sliding ring reel seat over a mortised cork spacer. Cork fighting butt. The "featherweight" black aluminum ferrules are size 12/64 with a great fit. Actual weight is 1.80 oz. The action is parabolic medium-fast. Includes original satin bag free of holes and the original tube with the Champion label 98% remaining.
