For sale here is a very historically important Paul H. Young bamboo rod. Made in 1950 for baseball and fly fishing legend Ted Williams. This rod came to be known as Young's 9 1/2 foot "Florida Special" model. Originally called the "Ted Williams Model" before Williams asked Young not to include his name in the official name of the rod. Williams subsequently gave this rod back to the Young family when he signed a contract with Sears Roebuck and Company, who was to use Ted Williams' name as part of a line of sporting goods.
This rod came from the Young family and includes a provenance letter from Todd Young, Paul's grandson.
Near mint overall condition. The 18/64 ferrule fit is perfect. The rod weighs [[[_____ oz.]]] and was made for casting a WF8 line. Comes with a replacement bag and tube.
I urge everyone to read John Feldenzer's excellent article, "Of Baseball and Bamboo: Bobby Doerr, Ted Williams, and the Paul H. Young Rod Company". The link can be found here.
