An EF Payne model 202 bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 or #6. Used but in full original condition, with some very minor varnish chips, some cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrule wraps, and some grip soiling. There is a reel foot impression in the slide band seat and the cap also has a ding on the corner. There is very little wear to the heavy wire snake guides. This is a "Sold by Ambercrombie & Fitch" rod with an agate stripper and my guess is that it dates to the late 1940's. The rod has the original ferrule plugs. The cane is flamed and oven tempered to a medium brown and the node spacing is typical Payne. Brown main wraps with yellow edges and an extra bad of purple at the keeper and ferrules. The ferrule oxidation has a few chips here and there but retains 95% of the original bluing. The ferrule fits are excellent. The grip is 6" long and shaped to a medium cigar with some ridging due to hand wear. The reel seat is a downlocking slide band over Spanish cedar. Some edgewear to the cap and ring oxidation. The rod packs into the original bag with a still legible hangtag, and the original tube with the gray felt insert in the brass top and the Payne sticker.
