An EF Payne Model 205 bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 3-piece, 1-tip, and built for a #6 or #7 line. Weighs 4.9 ounces. Very light use the rod is straight and the ferrules are tight. No soiling of the grip. There are some cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrule wraps. A "Made for Abercrombie and Fitch" stamp indicates a manufacture date of 1963 or later. Perfection stripper and finial ferrule plugs. The action is on the quicker side. My guess is that this rod was made as a one tip rod which was more common when sold through Abercombie exclusively. The varnish is superb and flawless. The main wraps are brown with black edges with yellow and maroon tipping at the keeper and male ferrules. The step ferrules are oxidized jet black with the aformentioned finial ferrule plugs. The stripping guide is a #10 Perfection with black snakes the rest of the way. The grip is 6" long and shaped to a western profile with a hidden pocket cap. The rod has a Spanish cedar spacer and aluminum uplocking screwlock hardware. The hardware has "Payne" stamped in a cartouche and under that "Reg US Pat Off" and on the reverse "Made for Abercrombie and Fitch Co". The rod packs into an olive poplin bag with the original hang tag. The tube is also original and has a gray felt insert in the brass tube top. Both the green and red A&F labels on the tube are 80-90% intact.
