A nice EF Payne fly rod, 9', 3-piece, 3-tips, and built for what feels to me like a #5 or #6. Likely a model 208 based on the specs and I have listed it as such. 4.9 ounces. A "Sold by Clapp and Treat, Hartford" rod. Refinished with a replaced grip and reel seat spacer. Medium slow action. All sections are full length with no repair wraps. The wraps are brown with yellow edges with an extra band of purple at the keeper and male ferrules. Agate stripper with high angle HSS snake guides and small hoop taper tube Perfection tip tops. The rod has not been fished since the refinish and the varnish is excellent. The step ferrules have been re-oxidized to the proper jet black. The blunt cigar grip is 5 1/2" long and has in my opinion likely been replaced as most of the Clapp and Treat rods had a band of lignum vitae in the middle of the grip. The reel seat wood is walnut but I believe this to be a replacement as well. The cap and ring have been polished and re-oxidized and thus have polished out the knurl on the ring. The cap is stamped with the older "EF Payne, EF Payne Rod Co, Makers" and on the reverse "Sold by Clapp and Treat Co Inc, Hartford". The bag is original but no hang tag has survived and the tube is original except that the felt in the brass top has been replaced. An excellent fishing choice for the Payne enthusiast.
