A nice EF Payne Model 95 fly rod, 6', 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #2 line. 1.6 ounces. Used, but all original condition, full length, and extremely rare! This is the most delicate of all of the Payne models, with tips that are 50 thousandths over varnish. Light flame and oven temper cane with brown main wraps and yellow edges and an extra band of purple at the keeper and male ferrules. "Sold by Abercrombie and Fitch" die stamp and an agate stripper so I would date this rod to the early 1950's. The varnish is original and in excellent condition. The ferrule fits are good and the rod sections are straight. Although the grip has soiling and some very minor erosion the rod appears to have seen little use. The diminutive grip is 4" long shaped to a medium cigar with no front or rear cork check. The walnut cap and ring reel seat is only 3 1/4" long. The cap and ring retains about 95% of the oxidation (and the wear is only at the edges). The cap is stamped "Payne" in cartouche, "Reg Us Pat Off", and "Sold by Abercrombie and Fitch Co, New York". Olive rod bag with no hang tag. The rod tube has a neat "A&F Abercrombie & Fitch, New York" decal that is about 80% intact. Gray felt in the brass top.
