A Payne salmon rod, 9'6", 3-piece, 2-tips, built for what feels to me like a #8 line. 7.1 ounces. Refinished. Medium slow action. The varnish on this rod is nice but the wraps on the rod are not quite of the same standard. The silk color is too light a brown and the edges of the wraps often have some roughness. The tungsten snake guides have been replaced with black stainless and the stripper is agateen (glass). One tip has a partial facet crack between the ferrule and the lowest guide. The second tip appears to have been splintered in the same area and has been re-glued. The grip is a Western style so often favored by Jim Payne and is 7" long. It has some soiling but no ridging. Uplocking screwlock seat of aluminum which is stamped "Payne" in a cartouche and "Reg Us Pat Off" beneath it. The spacer looks like spanish cedar. The ferrules are tight but could use a mild cleaning. The tips have a sweep and could use some straightening. The rod packs into the original olive poplin bag (though the tag is missing as is often the case) and comes in the original aluminum tube with brass fittings.
