For sale here is a Pezon et Michel - Type Ritz "Variopower" Glass/Bamboo Rod 7'2" 2/2 5wt. Serial number 222688. The rod is in excellent original condition with the following exceptions: tip number 1 has likely been walked into something creating the beginning of a break right below the tip top. This can easily be fixed though. Tip number 2 is down 1/8" and is missing the wrap just below the tip-top guide. This will likely have no effect on the action. The Variopower was designed by Charles Ritz and intended to be cast using his high speed/high line, "HS/HL" technique. The butt section of the rod is made of fiberglass in a light brown color while the tips are bamboo. Constructed with staggered ferrules. Unfortunately the ferrule plug has been lost. The bamboo tip sections are numbered 1 and 2 at the ferrule. The wraps are chestnut brown. Red, white, and blue signature wrap, a tribute to France. Bronzed guides. Sculpted magenta winding check. Ritz style grip with moderate soiling but free of ridging or hook gouges. Down-locking, magenta colored aluminum reel seat with a cork spacer. Nickel silver ferrules with typical P&M red witness marks. The sections fit together nice and tight as they should. The rod weighs 3.70 oz. The action is swift, on the faster side of medium-fast. The rod feels very light in the hand, thanks to the fiberglass butt section. Despite this, it also balances quite well. Includes an original Variopower bag with tag indicating the rod information though it is for the wrong rod -- a 7'6" Variopower. No tube.
