VFT2946
For sale here is a SF-era R.L. Winston 9' bamboo fly rod. Made in 1946. Two sections with two tips. Serial no. 6100.
Glenn Brackett provided some feedback on the rod, notably that "it's a very rare rod, not in the catalog so probably custom ordered, possibly a tournament rod. Outside dimensions would suggest a 7/8 weight rod, but it's very light in hand, probably hollowed into the tips and best with a 5 or 6 weight line. Rare size 16 ferrule."
The rod is in excellent overall condition. The ferrules were reset by Glenn and obviously the ferrule overwraps are newer silks. The other wraps were given an overcoat as well. One tip is 1/2" short. Deep brassy colored wraps with gold and black jasper wraps at the winding check, signature wrap, ferrules, and tip-tops. Bright guides with ruby colored agate stripping guide. Ring hook-keeper. Bakelite winding check. Full-wells grip is soiled but in wonderful condition. Classic SF Winston aluminum down-locking reel seat with Bakelite spacer and butt cap. Ferrules are size 16/64, the fit is excellent. Rod is marked as weighing 4 1/2 oz. Actual weight is 4 5/8 oz. The rod's action is medium-fast action. Well suited for big river fishing in windy conditions. Rod comes in replacement early Winston spin rod bag and original tube with label 95% remaining.
