Thomas and Thomas Bamboo Fly Rod 7' 2/2 #4

534

A nice Thomas and Thomas fly rod, 7', 2-piece, 2-tip, built for a #4 line. Serial #2061. Impregnated cane. Some slight hand-soiling to the grip but this rod appears to have been unfished and lawncast only. Tom Maxwell's handwritten lettering has the weight at 2 1/2 oz but my scale has it slightly lighter at 2.4oz. Medium semi-parabolic action. This is a late Maryland or early Fisk Ave Greenfield period rod. Browntone flamed cane in 3 up node pattern. No model name. The wraps are brown with no tipping and double wrapped at the ferrules. Bright nickel silver step ferrules with an unusually long welt. The guides are chrome with a Mildrum carbide stripper. The tips are labelled #1 and #2. The grip is 5 1/2" long and very slim at the front changing to fairly fat cigar at the midpoint and tapering to the Walnut slide band reel seat. The Walnut seat is flatted with two aluminum slide band rings and a cork button to keep the rings in place. The ferrule fits are good, the rod is straight and it is very light without resorting to hollow building. Comes packed in a red cloth bag and a commercial tube typical of the T&T build period.
