A very nice Thomas & Thomas Salmon XL model bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #7 line. Serial #3244. The rod weighs 6.4 ounces on my scale. Mint condition. Medium action. The rod is impregnated and buffed to a high shine. Three-up node pattern with oven-tempered cane. Tan-colored main wraps with light brown edges and an extra band of black at the keeper and ferrules. The brown edge is double wrapped at the ferrules, giving it an almost black color. There are two carbide strippers on the butt and black snakes as well as carbide tip tops. The ferrules are T&T's own swiss style with a collar on the male and are oxidized. A large swell leads the eye onto the generously proportioned 7" long grip that is styled to a Western profile with a hidden pocket cap for the uplocking screw lock. The seat spacer is varnished and mortised walnut. The barrel, nut, and slide are aluminum. The slide is stamped “Thomas & Thomas, Makers” in an oval cartouche. A ferrule is machined into the reel seat to accept the fighting butt, which is stored in a compartment in the bottom of the tube. The rod packs into a blue light brown cloth bag, and the tube is polished aluminum with brass fixtures at both ends.
