A very nice Thomas and Thomas "Caenis" fly rod, 6', 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #3 line. Serial #3685. 2.4 oz. Impregnated. This rod is in excellent, carefully used condition and a rare model that can be tough to find. It is nice and straight, the ferrule fit is very good, and the guides have little brassing. The cap and ring have a fair amount of edgewear to the oxidation and the grip is moderately dark from hand soiling. The rod action is medium but full flexing which I find ideal at this length as it helps to have as much of a small rod working for you. The cane is a heavy oven tempered dark wheat straw. The nodes are three up except for a few places on the butt. The main wraps are a very light tan with brown edges and an extra band of black at the keeper, ferrules, and tip tops. Dark brown wraps a the ferrules. The keeper is on the wrap flat as well as the lettering "6' #3 Caenis no 3685". The Swiss-style ferrules are oxidized along with the other hardware. The grip is 5" long and shaped to a medium cigar. The reel seat is a lovely piece of walnut flatted and varnished smooth. There are a few faint reel foot impressions in the varnish. The cap is stamped "Thomas & Thomas, Makers". This rod feels like a great one for close-in midge fishing. It comes packed in a tan bag and an aluminum tube with brass top and bottom.
