Thomas & Thomas Caenis Bamboo Fly Rod 7’6” 2/2 #3

2344

A nice Thomas and Thomas Caenis bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #3 line. Serial #5015. Marked as 2 7/8 ounces but the rod weighs closer to 3.7 on my scale. Pleasing medium action. Excellent used condition with normal cosmetic wear throughout. There are a few small scratches to the varnish just where the rod is inked on the butt and then up the rod about 3" down from the stripper there is a spot where one edge was scraped, but neither is particularly sinister. The grip is fairly well soiled and some of the bluing to the cap and ring has oxidized, but the ferrules are great and the varnish throughout the rest of the rod is excellent. The rod is also arrow straight and the ferrules seat nicely. Lightly mottled flame cane done in a three up node pattern, with the characteristic swell going into the grip. Wrapped red at the keeper, black at the ferrules with red tipping on the males, and red for the main wraps. Carbide stripper with black guides and tip tops. The oxidized ferrules are in excellent shape. The grip is a medium-blunt cigar with oxidized front and rear cork checks, while the seat is a cap and ring over a varnished walnut spacer. The cap sports the T&T maker stamp. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag with a stiffener and a brushed aluminum tube with the T&T data sticker affixed to it with brass fittings. A nice little T&T with some honest use but with many years of fishing ahead of it.
