A Walt Carpenter Browntone bamboo fly rod, 7'3", 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 or #5 line. Serial #25173. The rod weighs 3.4 ounces on my scale. The action is a bit to the faster side of medium. The rod shows signs of modest use, with some cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrule wraps and brassing to the inner snake guides. The grip remains very clean and the rod is nice and straight. The cane is medium flamed and done in a three up node pattern. The wraps are brown with black edges and a band of yellow and maroon at the keeper and male ferrules. #8 SRMC carbide stripper with black snake guides. The step ferrules are oxidized with some fading to the finish on the female ferrule. Slim cigar grip that measures 6 1/4" long. The seat is a flatted slide band over varnished walnut. The cap is stamped "WE Carpenter, Maker". The reel seat hardware has about 85% oxidation loss. The ferrules are fitted with Payne style aluminum finial ferrule plugs with holes drilled for a retention cord. The rod comes with a tan cloth bag and a brushed aluminum tube fitted with Thomas style brass fittings.
