A very nice Walt Carpenter Browntone "Like a Thomas" bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Made in 2016, according to the accompanying hang tag. The rod weighs 4.2 ounces on my scale. This is one of Walt's special limited rods that pay homage to prior makers, this one to FE Thomas. Medium action. This one appears to be lawn cast at most. The rod is straight and the ferrules seat nicely. Medium dark cane with the nodes randomly spaced. Excellent varnish. The rod is wrapped with very dark maroon / light red signature wraps above the keeper (which is affixed to the front cork check). The main wraps are very dark maroon the rest of the way. Agate stripper with bronzed guides the rest of the way. Oxidized step ferrules. The grip is 5 3/4" long and shaped to a blunt cigar profile. The seat is an oxidized Thomas-style cap and ring over a flatted and varnished walnut spacer. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag with Walt's hang tag on it, and an aluminum tube with brass fittings, that has both Walt's and a Thomas sticker affixed to it. A very hard to find rod and a fine homage to the Thomas tradition.
