For sale here is a Wright & McGill "Water Seal" Model No. FA impregnated fly rod - 8'6" 3/2 for a 5 weight line. The rod is in excellent+ original condition. All sections are full length and straight. The Water Seal rods were made only for a short time and appeared in catalogs from 1952-53. Wright & McGill produced two grades in the Water Seal model, the FA and FB, the FA being the higher grade. This rod is the FA, evident by the burgundy wraps and gold tipping. One reason the FA was a higher grade and more expensive was due to the special metal used for the ferrules and reel seat, Monel. Monel is an alloy of copper and nickel very resistant to corrosion. The impregnation makes the cane a lovely dark color similar to older Orvis rods. The varnish on the wraps is in excellent condition. All guides are secure. The decal on the butt is 70% intact, there is a strip missing where it says "Water Seal". Otherwise, it in fine shape with all corners intact. The full wells grip is only lightly soiled and free of any ridging, hook gouges, or other defects. Patented, Granger up-locking reel seat functions smoothly and properly. The rod weighs an even 5 oz. Ferrule sizes 10/64 and 16/64, the fit is nice and tight as it should be. Though the rod is built on the standard Granger taper it has a faster action imparted by the impregnation process. Still, the rod is capable of a fair amount of finesse. The rod includes original bag and aluminum tube. Don't miss a chance to own this wonderful Colorado rod. A must-have for Granger/W&M collectors.
