A Gary Howells bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #6 line. Serial #4450. This rod was restored by Marcelo Morales, which included building a new tip. The new tip and the butt section have been re-wrapped, though the wrap color is a shade darker than the Howells original and they were also given chrome guides (the original tip has lightly bronzed ones). Nevertheless the restoration work is good quality. The rod weighs 4.2 ounces on my scale. Full flexing medium-fast action. Dark wheatstraw colored cane done in a three up node pattern. The varnish on the original and restored sections is in good condition. Wrapped in brown with yellow tipping (as noted the re-wrapped butt and new tip is done in a darker, slightly more red main wrap color). The ferrules have the characteristic overwrap. The grip is 7 1/4" long and shaped to a western profile with a hidden pocket cap under the heel. An uplocking aluminum screwlock seat is done over a varnished Zebrawood spacer. The rod packs into a bright red cloth bag and the original tube with Gary's data sticker affixed to the outside.
