A nice Leonard model 39-5 bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #5 line. This is the Standard model with intermediate signature wraps. Serial #81254 with a manufacture date of 1981 during the Maxwell period. Medium fast DF action. Light use with some grip soiling and a small 1/8" overwrap between the second and third snake guide down from the top, which I suspect was due to a hook dig. The cane is oven tempered to a blond wheatstraw color with a three up node pattern. The wraps are red with a carbide stripper and black stainless guides. The step ferrules are polished. The grip is 5 1/2" long and shaped to a slim cigar with some light soiling as mentioned. The reel seat spacer is a varnished mortised curly maple with a polished nickel silver cap and ring. "HL Leonard Rod Co, The Maker, Since 1869" stamped on it. Tan bag, and aluminum tube with Leonard brass hardware.
