A nice Leonard Special Tournament fly rod, 8'6", 3-piece, 2-tips, built for a #6 or #7 line. The rod has not been fished since it was refinished by Leonard rodmaker Ted Simroe. The ferrule fits are good and the rod is nice and straight. The rod has a spliced joint running under the agate stripping guide on the butt section. The rod is wrapped red with a black band at the keeper, male ferrules, and tip-tops. The ferrules and reel seat hardware are polished bright. The grip is a 6 1/2" slim cigar profile appears to be a replacement. The grip is covered in heat shrink plastic. The reel seat is an all-metal downlock screwlock with square nickel silver wire soldered on and filed to act as thread teeth. A nickel silver pocket cap and ring are soldered on the bottom. The cap is stamped "The Leonard Rod, HL Leonard Rod Co, Maker" in a cartouche and below that "Reg US Pat Off" and "Special Tournament" is stamped on the barrel. The rod is missing the usual end cap but comes with the fighting butt (the rod is pictured with the fighting butt attached, hence the appearance of the butt section being longer than the mid and tips). I can't say if the bag is original and the rod comes in a leather case but I suspect that it is a substitute as the original case would have had a William Mills stamp on it. A very serviceable rod.
