A nice FE Thomas Browntone fly rod, 8'6", 3-piece, 2-tips, built for a #5 or #6. 4.8 ounces. Medium fast action. Original full length condition with some signs of use including minor varnish chips but very little wear to the guides. Browntone cane with brown main wraps and a tan edge at the keeper and male ferrules. Signature wraps at the keeper and windaways at the male ferrule are brown. The stripper is agate and the snake guides are heavy wire reverse twist bronze. The step ferrules fit fine and are oxidized. The front cork check has the keeper ring pinned one flat right. The grip is original, uncleaned, 6 1/2" long and shaped to a medium cigar profile. The slide band seat is mahogany with an oxidized pocket butt cap and ring. The cap is stamped "FE Thomas, Special, Bangor, ME" and "401" stamped on the bottom. The green cloth bag is original along with the hangtag, which states "Browntone, Fly, 8 1/2 feet, 4 3/4 oz, #401". The rod is accompanied by the original aluminum brass-topped tube. It's very rare to find an FE Thomas like this in good original condition.
