A nice Gary Howells fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, built for a #5 line. Serial # 4323 indicating a 1977 manufacture date. Official weight of 3 1/8 ounces though weighs 3.6 on my scale. The rod action is on the slower side of medium. The condition is lightly used with some soiling to the grip but no chips, hook digs, scratches to the varnish or any other issues. The rod is straight and the ferrule fit is excellent. The cane is oven tempered to a light brown color and configured in a three up node pattern. The main wraps are brown with yellow edges. The stripping guide is a #8 mildrum carbide and the snake guides are chrome. The hook keeper is one flat right, and the front cork check is bright. The grip is 5 1/2" long and styled as a western with a hidden pocket cap in the heel of the grip for the uplocking screwlock. The wood spacer is quartersawn zebra wood with a nice coat of varnish. The rod packs into an original red cloth bag and the original tube with the Howells data sticker in 100% original condition.
