For sale here is an incredibly rare Harold S. "Pinky" Gillum 6'6" 2/2 4wt bamboo trout rod. The rod is in excellent+ restored condition having been beautifully restored by Thomas & Thomas in 1976 and fished very little since then. All sections are full length and straight. The rod will include the original correspondence regarding the rod signed by Len Codella, who helmed T&T at the time.
Beautiful cane with an amber hue contrasts handsomely with the pale gold silks. Jet black and white tipping at the winding check, and male ferrules. The female ferrule has a white band bisecting the ferrule/guide wrap. Oxidized guides and winding check. The petite cigar grip measures 4 7/8" in length with only light soiling and remains very smooth. Bright aluminum cap and ring reel seat over a beautiful mortised African mahogany spacer. The ferrules are Super-Z's, which Gillum started using around 1948-1950. The rod weighs a svelte 2.55 oz. with an action on the fast side of medium fast. Best with a DT4 in my opinion. Comes with replacement bag and tube.
The widely held belief is that Gillum produced about 1000 rods in his career with few of them being rods of this length. Don't miss the chance to own this exceptional rod and fine piece of American bamboo fly rod history.
