An HL Leonard Baby Catskill bamboo fly rod, 6', 2-piece, 2-tip and built for a #1 or #2 line. It is very unusual to find one of these rods in original and full length condition, and especially an early model like this which has reverse twist guides. The later models had heavier tips (about .045") but this one has tips that are ~.035". Both tips have been cast as there is a minute amount of brassing to the inner reverse twist bronze guides. There is no cosmetic cracking at the ferrule wrap. The action is faster than what I've found typical of these models. Oven heat treated cane and brush varnished finish with green wraps. There is a tiny swell at the cork grip. A 7.5 size polished ferrule and a snake guide is substituted for the stripper. The grip is just 3 1/2" long and turned to a blunt cigar profile. The reel seat is just 2 1/4" long and is white cedar. Leonard sold a tiny reel to go along with this rod (the only one that would fit this seat). The nickel silver cap and ring were usually made from a spun cap. Stamped "The Leonard, HL Leonard Rod Co" and the cap is only 3/8" long. The bag is an olive poplin with no sign of a hang tag. The aluminum tube has the older longer brass collar and top. A very fine example of this rare model.
