A nice HL Leonard bamboo fly rod, 6'4", 2-piece, 1-tip, and built for a #2 or #3. 1.8 ounces. Catskill style rod with a tiny reel seat and a snake guide for a stripper. Full flexing delicate action. I strongly suspect that this rod has been "cut down" and may have been broken at the female and re-set and the tip re-set down 1". Most likely that took some of the looseness out of the action and quickened it up a bit. Three up node pattern with blonde cane. Yellow wraps with no edges. 9/64 ferrules. The grip is a delicate slim cigar of 4 1/2". No front cork check. The slide band seat is white cedar and only 3" long (this may not fit some reel feet). The butt cap is stamped "Leonard Rod, HL Leonard Rod Co, Makers" in a very compact cartouche. On the reverse "Reg U.S. Pat Off" is stamped. The rod bag is a brown poplin with a leather pull tab (a late model bag?) and looks to have been shortened to accommodate the rod. The rod tube also appears to have been shortened as the brass bottom is dented out as if a heavy weight was used to knock it off the tube in order to cut it down.
