An HL Leonard Hewitt Tournament bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tips, built for what feels like a #5. Medium fast action. 4.1 ounces. Restored condition. This is the "Hewitt" model if the restoration is accurate. The main wraps are black and white jasper with red edges. Signature wraps in jasper and red and full intermediates of black and white jasper. Agate stripper and "circle" snake guides. The tip tops are perfection taper tubes with the patent date and small hoops with almost no sign of wear. All the hardware is polished and the step ferrules are the pot belly type with the patent date stamp on the female. All rod sections are full length, show no signs of damage, and are straight. The temper color is medium blonde and the nodes are done in a three up configuration. The grip is 5" long in a medium cigar and done in 3/8" corks. The reel seat is butternut wood with a cap and ring. The butt cap is stamped "The Leonard Rod, HL Leonard Rod Co, Makers" in a cartouche and on the reverse "Tournament". The poplin rod bag is dark brown in color and has no hang tag but looks correct for the period. The rod tube is also correct for the period with a large brass collar and top. An interesting historical and rare model.
