An HL Leonard model 39 bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #5 or #6 line. Weighs 4 ounces on my scale. Serial #1013 putting the date of manufacture circa 1968 or 1969. Medium action. Modest use with some hand soiling to the grip, cosmetic casting cracks to the ferrule wraps, and some brassing to the inner part of the snake guides. There are some marks on the screwlock nut where pliers were used to loosen it. Butternut color cane done in a three up node pattern. The main wraps are 326 red with purple edges at the keeper and male ferrules. The Leonard step ferrules are polished. The grip is 5 1/2" long and is shaped to a medium cigar profile. The rod has an aluminum downlocking screwlock with a nickel silver pocket cap and a butternut spacer. The cap is stamped "HLL / HL Leonard Rod Co / Makers". There is no data sticker on the brass capped aluminum tube.
