Leonard DF50 Fly Rod 8' 3/2 #5/6

An HL Leonard DF50 bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip and built for a #5 or #6 line. Serial #375. Weighs 4.1 ounces. Made circa 1979 during the Maxwell period. This was the "standard" model. Medium fast action. Used but in excellent shape. Blonde cane with small three up nodes. The varnish is in excellent plus condition. No brassing to the pewter color oxidation on the step ferrules. The main wraps are a light yellow with an extra edge of burgundy and darker yellow at the keeper. Wrapped brown with red edges fore and aft at the ferrules. Carbide stripper and HSS snake guides. The grip is 6" long and turned to a very slim cigar profile (one of the Maxwell hallmarks). The reel seat is a mortised and varnished curly maple with a cap and ring. The butt cap is stamped "HLL Leonard Rod co, The Rod Maker, Since 1869". The cap and ring retain about 60% of the original oxidation. The rod is packed in the original brown cloth bag with the leather pull tab and comes with the original aluminum tube with brass fittings.
