A nice HL Leonard Model 39-5 fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip and built for a #5 line. Serial #2401 which dates the rod to 1974. 3.7 ounces. The action is a tad on the slowish side of medium. Lightly used, with some soiling to the grip and a bit of cosmetic cracking at the ferrule wraps but little wear to the interior of the guides (and none on one tip). Wrapped 326 red with a green and red band at the keeper and male ferrules. The varnish is good but typical of the brush coat technique. The ferrules are polished bright and the fit is nice and tight. The grip is 5 1/2" inches and is styled to the blunt side of a medium cigar. The reel seat is a downlocking aluminum screwlock with the square threads over a butternut spacer. The full nickel silver pocket cap is stamped "The HL Leonard Rod co, Makers" in a cartouche. The rod packs into a yellow poplin bag with a stiffener. The aluminum tube with brass hardware is original and has the Leonard data sticker on it in good condition.
